It’s nice to get a broad view of different people’s opinions of Koh Phangan. We took to the Phanganist Hostel and spoke to a few guests to get their views on what the island has taught them, the thing that they will now implement in their everyday lives…

I haven’t been here very long, we chilled yesterday as we had been travelling all day but then we hired a bike to find a beach but then missed the sunset.
I have learnt that it is so laid back it’s untrue, the hostel and the island itself, it has that island attitude compared to Bangkok and Chang Mai where I have been.

I would say, fulfill your dreams and don’t wait for them to happen. I feel like people here, the locals, are waiting for it to happen to them.

Think about the things you value in life and remember to be happy. If you are not happy then change your life.
Joey
Keep a good heart about life. You'll get what you need. When you need it. Keep a good mind set.
Chris
whether sat on the sand, Or swimming in the sea, Or lazing with friends on a wooden balcony. Whether your pockets are full, Or you’re counting your pennies, Whether you’re 80 years old or just in your twenties. Whether you've got a full day of work or have time to top up your tan
Always remember...Enjoy Koh Phangan.
Always remember to enjoy your surroundings!

It has taught me to be tolerant and always see the best in people, there are lots of people that are different to you and that have a different mindset but you should see the nice parts in them.
It’s also taught me to relax, everything sabai sabai.

That you need to be flexible with your life. For example, low and high season are totally different and the changes of the island day to day makes you need to be flexible and adaptable for different situations.
Sharon
There’s no need to plan too far and anyway you don’t really know, this is something that is a common thing in the Western world that you need to have a mortgage and safe career and plan for twenty years.
Sonia
That language is not a barrier, just because you don’t speak the same language this doesn’t stop communication.
Ryan
I don’t know if this is a good answer but the biggest thing for me would be driving safer, I have already lost a friend on the island, it’s crazy…
Karim
Since I have been here in terms of possessions, you need so much less than you think. I did have a suitcase full of clothes and now I can fit it all in a plastic bag. As long as I have my passport and toothbrush then I can travel.
What has Koh Phangan taught you, let us know!
