Dj Ruby wouldn't dare miss the Jungle Experience!

Hey Ruby, so you come every year to Koh Phangan, what keeps bringing you back?
Simply put, I’m in love with Koh Phangan! This is my tenth or eleventh year returning here!

Apart from the fact that I come for my gigs, I’m also massively attached to the island… to it’s magic, to it’s spirit. Also I think it was easy for me to feel at home here, because Koh Phangan, just like my country Malta, is an island.

And what do you like to do in your spare time here?
Beach! My favourite is Malibu Beach up north.

Food! My favourite restaurant is Fisherman’s in Ban Tai. And yeah if I’m not DJ’ing, I put my clubber shoes on and hit Guy’s Bar & Eden.

Are you looking forward to playing Jungle Experience and what makes it special for you?
Every year Jungle Experience is a gig I wouldn’t dare to miss! The venue is of course unique and the energy is electric beginning to end and the people who run it are just amazing.

Got any beats up your sleeve for your set?
I love groove! So expect a groovy rhythm throughout my performance… being house, tech or progressive.

Tell us a bit about the Malta party scene if you will...
The scene in Malta is amazing! We are a small country with a population of only half a million, but most locals are below the age of mid 30’s and are into electronic dance music.

We have a lot of clubs and big international DJ’s perform on a weekly basis. The only thing we lack is foreign clubbers, but for the past two to three years this has been changing as many international festivals and club nights are now hosting events in Malta and tourist clubbers are increasing week after week.

And what do you think of Koh Phangan's developing scene?
Phangan’s scene is definitely going bigger and stronger year after year, now I am seeing also more big name international DJs performing here, which is good.

Also wherever I go all over the world, people know about the thriving scene in Koh Phangan!

What were your best gigs of last year?
I’m lucky enough to have top gigs every week throughout the year at my residencies in Café Del Mar in Malta which is a massive open air venue by the pool overlooking the sea and also at my other residency in Malta which is at Clique, the country’s ’s number one underground/after hours venue.

Apart from my residencies last year I also has great gigs in Turkey, Australia and of course at Jungle Experience in Koh Phangan which is one of my yearly highlights.

And what will be your main projects for this year?
Certainly to restart with producing music again! For the last three years I didn’t produce any music because I was very busy running my own film making media company which got very big.

I was working non-stop in producing music videos and music documentaries during the week and DJ’ing/travelling at weekends. Now I have a good team of people working for me, so I finally have more time to do music again.

What is your sound like and what do you use for inspiration?
As I quoted above, my sound is anything, which is groovy. I don’t label myself as a House or a Techno DJ, I simply produce and perform ass-shaking groovy underground electronic dance music.

As for inspiration, I get it from everything I hear, being a sound in the street, listening to other genres of music, checking out sets from other DJs…from anything that my ear absorbs.

What would you say to djs hoping to play in Asia?
Produce music, produce music and produce music… if you do so, you won’t just play in Asia, but you will perform all over the world.

I’m gonna keep it musically… here’s a quote from Stevie Wonder which is one of my favourite liners… guess it will be still my motto for 2016 ;
