Welcome back to Koh Phangan, why have you decided to return?
Thank you, lovely to be back! I end up coming back because I consider this to be my second home.

I love coming here, it’s a place that makes me happy and I am considering trying to live here, well live is a big word, lets say I will be spending quite a bit of time here in comparison to other years.

What is it about Phangan that makes you happy?
Well, it just feels like home like I said, more than my birth country in a sense.

I feel at ease, life is slower, easier and more enjoyable. You are not stuck in western modern slavery as I like to call it.

What have you been up to in the year since you’ve been gone?

Musically it’s been a bit quiet actually, I think there’s too much politics involved in the European scene and I’m not good handling that, so I’ve had one gig a month more or less.

This year I became a regular dj for B2B (Back 2 Basics) in Belgium which is also the organisation behind the psytrance stage at Tomorrowland which I will be playing this summer.

Other than that I worked a lot doing freelance IT jobs and travelled quite a bit in the summer to Greece, Italy and Turkey.

What parties have you played before?
I have played Blackmoon Culture, The Experience Festival in Koh Tao, Ban Sabaii, Shiva Moon, I played at one of the very first editions of the ( then called Sramanora ) Waterfall Parties and the Jungle Experience when it was still psychedelic, at least five years ago.

What has been one of your stand out gigs on Koh Phangan?

The Blackmoon’s are always nice of course but for me Ban Sabaii is one of the places where I play my best sets, the ones I’m most happy about. I recently played there the ‘After Experience’, which was a “proud making” set, I like to think myself.

How has the party scene changed since you have been coming?
Well I have noticed there is a lot of Deep House and Techno, over the years it has changed a bit from the old psychedelic scene to more Deep and Tech House.

I guess Koh Phangan is also getting in the good books with the more known artists from around the world as I see a lot of bigger names finding their way to the Island.

I’m a bit sad to see that the bigger parties are now all closing at 6am instead of 8am.

There used to be a lot more people at Ban Sabaii in the daytime as they were coming from the big parties straight away but now it gets fuller in the evening. I think it’s a shame because some of the play time goes to waste a bit but I’m guessing that’s all politics and police etc.

So you are experimenting with new genres, not just psy, why have you decided to do this and how is it going?

I actually started out playing different genres, I started with Techno from 1997 to 2001, from then I started to get involved in the psy scene and my biggest love is and always will be psy progressive but Techno is the foundation, it’s still there and I have always kept in touch with it.

It is hard to promote yourself and not as easy to get gigs in the genre that you are not frequently playing, if you are new to a scene then people are more reserved as to what you might bring or do, but I love the Techno festivals. I always go in Europe where the real big Techno names are playing. Especially the awakenings organisation that is doing a very good job at the moment.

I also did a series of Deep House for a radio show in Belgium for ten months called ‘Pre Breakfast Dessert’, once a month back in 2013-2014. Playlist and downloadable sets can be found here.

What are your current projects on Koh Phangan?
I’m trying to get some freelance things going but that’s my IT side and music wise I love to play so the more the better. (Smile)

What do you like to do on the island?

First of all I just enjoy staying home, quiet and relaxed…. I enjoy the island on all possible levels, ironically I’m not much of a beach person so, I go sightseeing and I love eating so finding nice places to eat and checking what’s new in the club scene. Last year I also went to Guy’s bar which was a nice experience, I hadn’t been there before.

Lighthouse and Sandcastle are new to me but this time I haven’t been here long enough to go to any of the new places, they’re on the list. This year, so far, only Shiva Moon and Ban Sabaii. I still need to get started with my seasons party experience.

What do you hope for yourself over the next year?
Actually, I don’t make plans that go that far, I live a maximum of half a year in advance. I like to take things as they come and make decisions on the way.

The idea is to have a nice time here, away from the stress of the western world and its philosophies, I want to go to Boom festival this year and the Tomorrowland gig is something I look forward to and other than that everything is up to chance.
