Have you noticed this Beer Pong game about?! Pretty much every Hostel seems to play it now, it’s an epidemic! So we got our mate Wayne from Ringside into HQ to tell us more...


Alright Mate! What is this thing Beer pong all about?
Lets not call a pig a horse here, it’s an  american game. It is about getting people together, making friends, it is a real social game and an easy way to get drunk.

How do you play it?
There’s a table with 6 cups in a triangle shape, like a bowling alley thing. Two beer pong balls each. you can play doubles which is one shot each. The aim is to get the ball in the cup, if u dont get it in you have to drink.
Everyone has different rules, there’s different rules at different hostels. We call ours ‘Ringside Rules’.
The Rules are:
2 balls one cup = game over (death cup)
2 balls separate cups = balls returned
Bounce a ball and it goes in = 2 cups (defend optionally)
Once in the game you can re-rack if you’re not happy with the situation or cups, you can change them around.
If the ball returns on the table you have to make a trick shot, eyes closed, bounce off a wall or whatever. My personal favourite is off a bottle.
You have to have your elbows behind the table when you release the ball.

What’s your funniest story of Beer Pong?
Kong from Ringside, I chucked the ball which bounced off table and onto the floor. Kong was watering the plants, minding his own business and within a matter of seconds he just frikin kicked the ball, it went in the air, he then backed healed it and it went in the cup!!! All of this with shades on looking down at the plants. This was ace as I was playing with Sam and I only had one cup left so I won!

You run a tournament at Ringside, when is this and can anyone join?
Every night basically, players depending. You don’t have to be a guest. We, get a lot of teams from other hostels wanting to beat us but it’s hard. It is 100 baht buy in, winner takes all.

What got you into Beer Pong?
Paul my boss, he kept beating me and I wanted to beat him

What would you say to those like me who are not good at beer pong but want to play?
Put me on your side! team up with me!

What do you do in your free time and what are your favourite places?
Thong Nai Pan and Than Sadet to see the lizards, they are Monitor lizards that get super big. There’s also a tiny little beach round the corner from the main beach that no one really knows about. It’s my secret beach.

What is your life philosophy?
Form is temporary, class is permanent.
