We are so lucky to have PACS here on the island of Koh Phangan, it is a rabies free area. Also Surat Thani Province is not yet considered a danger zone. But, it is still important to vaccinate your pet against this as just one infected animal could ruin the whole thing!
Over 60% of recorded infected animals are privately owned.
What you can do:
• Make sure your pets are vaccinated and have the right documentation. Contact Dr Jib 0844470944. Vaccinating your animal against Rabies, Parvo, Distemper, Hepatitis and Lepto costs around 500b.
• Encourage all other animal owners to do the same.
• If an animal bites you do not hesitate - see a doctor within 24 hours.
• Vaccinate a stray! We do the best we can but can’t reach them all. If an animal has a tattoo in its left ear it has probably been vaccinated already.
What PACS are doing:
• We vaccinate and neuter every animal that comes to our clinic – in the last 3 years over 2000 strays. All animals that have been admitted to PACs have a tattoo in their left ear.
• We are in discussion with the authorities and local vets to find out how we can assist further
