President Donald Trump announced in a move he called "a breakthrough" an emergency authorization of convalescent plasma for COVID-19 cases.
The blood plasma is obtained from people that healed from coronavirus. It is rich with antibodies and might offer advantages to those who battle the disease.
As for now, no research has been definitive as to how it functions when it should be given, and what dosage it requires.
The FDA's chief scientist, Denise Hinton, noted in a letter describing the emergency authorization: "COVID-19 blood plasma should not be weighed as a new standard of treatment for COVID-19 patient treatment.
"Over the coming months, further evidence can be given by other analyzes and current well-controlled clinical trials."
