Fatal Tourist Bus accident in Surat Thani, kills 10 and injures 17 including locals and foreigners.
A fatal bus accident took place early this morning on Nakhon Si Thammarat Road in the Kanchanadit district of Surat Thani.
The bus had left from Bangkok at 7.50pm Monday evening for Samui Island, and was carrying 24 passengers as well as a driver and two bus attendants.
Early reports indicate the driver lost control of the 1st class Bus, which left the road and collided with a power pole. A reported 10 people have died and another 17 have been injured, including both Thai nationals and foreigners. The injured are currently being treated at local hospitals.
Preliminary investigations indicate the front right tire of the bus may have burst, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle, leave the road and collide with the pole at full speed.
Among the deceased that have been identified so far are the driver and an Indian national named Amit Jain. A further five have still not been properly identified, and have all been sent for autopsies at Surat Thani Hospital.
Surat Thani's bus operator chief Pornpimon Klinhom revealed names of those who were injured and are currently being treated at Surat Thani Hospital, which can be contacted at (66 77) 272 231 and (66 77) 284 231; and Kanjanadit Hospital at (66 77) 244518-9.

She said the illfated bus has insurance with Dhipaya Insurance, which will take responsibility for compensation of the victims.
