About Preservation
Preservation is a New York native working out of his New Jersey-based Cloud City Studios. His 20-plus year career as a DJ and producer spans an array of projects and releases – notably Mos Def’s The Ecstatic (2009) & True Magic (2006); Wu-Tang Meets the Indie Culture (2005), and Lord Jamar’s The 5% Album (2005).

2015/2014 releases include two acclaimed collaborations with Brownsville lyricist KA (full-length Days with Dr. Yen Lo & the EP 1200 B.C.) and Of Monolithic Proportions the debut album of Yahzeed. 2013 saw the release of three very impressive additions to Preservation’s resume: Yasiin Bey’s & Preservation’s The REcstatic (a re-envisioning of Bey’s 2009’s full-length The Ecstatic); Preservation’s solo full-length debut, Old Numbers (Mon Dieu Music), which features Yasiin Bey, Jean Grae, Edo G and more; and SePtember 1200, a 12-track instrumental album produced solely on the classic drum machine, the SP-1200.

As tour DJ and in-house producer for Yasiin Bey (formerly known as Mos Def), Preservation has spent the past ten years traveling and performing with the lyricist in more than 25 countries. In 2008, he accompanied Bey at The Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall along with a 20-plus piece orchestra. He has shared the stage with such legends as Gil Scott-Heron, Gary Bartz & Shuggie Otis and has been an opening DJ for the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Additional credits include music production for select Christie’s Auction House fine art videos and co-writer for K'naan's "Wavin' Flag".

In 2007, Preservation produced the music and served as DJ for Season number six of the HBO program Russell Simmons Presents Def Poetry. He was also a member of the experimental hip-hop group Sonic Sum from 1998 - 2004. And in addition to his production and DJing, he is a connoisseur of the rare and unique as a vinyl collector, also boasting a keen eye behind the lens as a photographer and cinematographer. Preservation is one-half of Fishing Cat Films, a New York / Hong Kong based production company with Aubrey A. Daval.

Preservation launched Mon Dieu Music in 2012 – a label presenting a variety of cross-genre projects.
