Loy Krathong Festival on Phangan

Loy Krathong - Koh Phangan’s annual Light festival

Held on the early evening of the forthcoming Full Moon

A sweet candle light delight in tiny boats with flower decorations and beautiful colours.

Best experienced from the Baan Tai pier, where a small marked with every kind of Thai traditional delicious cuisines & sweets are available. 

Visitors can enjoy a number of lively festivities that include beauty contests, competitions and spectacular firework shows.

Under the November Full Moon, islanders gather to bless the waters by releasing elaborate candle lit offerings into the sea, while hundreds of giant paper lanterns carry wishes into the sky.
 

The lanterns are a costum in Thailand and you will know how lucky the person who lights it up, will be this year by the flight of the lantern.
 

You light it from the bottom so it swells from the heat and simply flies to the sky, moves away slowly, until it disappears..
 

You can pray for good things to happen.
You can write all kind of things on the lantern, - like things that you want to release or things that you want to happen.
Or you can just write 'thank you'.
