Loi Lay was created by Khun Thanaphorn also known as Lek.
Lek was born on the island and grew up in Ban Tai. Growing up he had two main interests fishing/boats and socialising, this is where the creation of Loi Lay grew from. As a young boy curious about music he often went into Haad Rin to socialise but the only place back then was Tommy's!
Year by year he watched as the tourists continued to come to the island bringing their different styles of music with them. After spending a lot of time in Ireland and the U.K. he discovered that his favourite music venues were the smaller ones as they had a good vibe.
The atmosphere was just as important as the music so the setup of the venue lighting, sound, DJs equipment and layout helped to create this working together with the music.
The name Loi Lay translates from Southern Thai to 'floating on the sea'. Loi Lay began initially as a bar open daily until 1am, the Sunday nights seemed to grow on their own and created their own identity, a unique night on a floating bar !!
Over the years Loi Lay has continued to attract many European, Australian, Russian and American DJs with some coming every year with Loi Lay on the top of their list as a must play and has established a great reputation among the music industry in cities like Amsterdam and Paris.
5 years ago we opened at 6pm and that's why tonight we are making a special sunset session starting at 6pm, the views are amazing !! We have 10 local DJs of who will mostly be playing back to back, with Resident Darragh Casey on at midnight.
For the future we hope to continue and grow, investing back into Loi Lay as we have been doing over the past 5 years. We are grateful for everyone who has been a part of Loi Lay's growth especially Lek's father who helped build and create Loi lay, our staff and all the dj's who bring their passion and energy.
We would especially like to thank you who have supported us over the last 5 years. It's everyone all together that makes it the special place it has grown into today
