Koh Phangan is famous for its Full Moon Party of course but there are also many other interesting parties, gatherings and events that take place all over the island.
During the 1980’s travellers noted that Haad Rin Beach was the most beautiful place to see the Full Moon and so a celebration was organised on the beach.
The party grew over the years and now attracts around thirty thousand people to the island every month and other parties also now take place including Half Moon, Jungle Experience, Blackmoon and Waterfall Party.
You can also find other smaller venues hosting parties and all of the music genres you can imagine; deep, sexy house at floating bar Loi Lay which happens every Sunday to psychedelic trance at Shiva Moon.
Koh Phangan also has a very good musician community with many resident musicians and also ones who are travelling but want to jam and connect with others whilst here.
Some form groups and bands and even then travel further afield together (and then always return).
More and more appreciation for live music has been struck in the last couple of years, not everyone wants to party, party, party (although the live music scene still know how to).
Regular live music nights are held at Wednesday Bar and Bermuda Bar which are also owned by musicians themselves so it’s great to go and meet like minded music people or just to watch and enjoy.
The local community like to look out for each other whether expats or Thai locals. The Tourist Association of Koh Phangan often create events like ‘Children’s Day’ and sports events like ‘Bike for Dad’ and the ‘Full Moon Marathon’.
You can help with Phangan Animal Care who take care of the stray animals on the island with their fundraising events and other charities often have fun parties or occasions that you can attend and participate in.
Some more nice clean fun can be found at many of the island’s yoga events, retreats and courses. International Yoga Day which was held at Agama in June this year was a great success and offered free classes and meditation events. Keep an eye on our events listings for updates from the schools.
