TYPE 1 DJ & Producer and partner in Project Apple Munch!

TYPE 1 has been visiting Phangan many times now and have played in nearly all the Tech House Venues posible on Phangan.
In this Round About he played a wicked set at the Jungle Experience on April 21 and he will continue his Tour on Phangan.

Though, not as Type 1.
DJ Moudy and he has a new DJ/Production Duo project called Apple Munch.

He says; "We decided to do a collaboration project together. Our sounds fit together really well.
We will be really playing B2B meaning one record each and we will both be using headphones to both be able to mix at the same time"

The dates for these gigs will be as following;

May 2 // Secret Garden Party (Koh Phangan)


For over a decade Type 1's DJ career has spoken for itself, earning him a reputation worthy of residencies in some on London’s most infamous clubs.

If you’ve ever ventured into The End, The Cross, The Fridge, Fire & The Mass, you’ll remember when his sets took you on a journey until the sun came up.

Moving his music to new ears, he’s guested at other major London clubs such as Brixton Academy, Ministry Of Sound, 54, Coronet and many other venues in London and across London & the UK.
He’s taken his sound on international ground and has toured Ibiza on several occasions at venues such as Es Paradis & Eden and other smaller venues such as Mambo, Savannah & Cafe Del Mar. He also guests at many other clubs in Europe and Asia.

Type 1 has played alongside some of the world’s favorites such as Groove Armada, Joris Voorn, Nic Fanciulli, D. Remirez, Luca Agnelli, Laidback Luke to name a few.

In 2012 he decided to make a permanent move to Bangkok.

He has already played various gigs in BKK including Bed Super Club, Q Bar, Glow, Bash, Levels and Tapas as well as playing various parties in Koh Phangan including Backyard,, Mellow Mountain, Rhythm and Sands & The Recovery Rooms.

He runs the label Malfunktion Records that has been hugely successful since the launch in June 2010.

Type 1 has teamed up with a Bangkok Veteran DJ Cello and set up Malfunktion Deep in 2012, which has seen massive support already.

It is the support of Type 1's productions that speaks for itself with A-listers such as Richie Hawtin, Luciano, Chris Leibing, Dubfire, Laurent Garnier, Mark Knight, Marco Carola, Marco V, Daniel Portman, The Japanese Popstars, Flash Brothers, Pedro Delgardo, Tom Hades, Ant Brooks, Luke Porter, Jon Rundell and many more the list goes on!

What is your Koh Phangan story?

"I first came to Koh Phangan in 2008, after travelling India for 2 months which was hard work!

I arrived in paradise and this is a paradise that has some really great underground music parties, I remember going to my first jungle party and thinking to myself 'fuck this is what it's all about' & I instantly fell in love with the place."

Since he arrived the first time here he has been playing here as well.

"Over the years I have played many venues in Koh Phangan but some of the highlights have been Backyard, Mellow Mountain, R&S and most recently our record label Malfunktion Records H20 Boat.

Such a great day! Very funny at first.
We played on top deck and it was very windy, they had put up a gazebo over the decks in case of rain.
Within 5 minute the whole thing collapsed of course but we didn't stop playing though.
DJ Cello held it up whilst I was playing until they could take it down. The crowd was up for it all day and the surroundings of paradise!
Has to go down as one of my favourite gigs!

We are happy to see you behind the Phangan decks! What do you feel that you can bring to the Phangan scene?

"I'm from London and I think London has a unique underground House sound.
I tend not to follow trends and play tracks that are personal to me.
New and old and not what’s charting on Beatport from month to month.

I like to think of it still as having a record bag, where I couldn't actually carry more than 80 records to a gig,
Obviously I do have a bigger collection of digital music I take with me to gigs but keep this personal and delete tracks I buy that I’m not that into."

"Music wise groovy sub by tech House.
I feel that DJ's should be interesting to watch and entertaining to the crowd.
I like to get involved with the crowd, jeering them up at breakdowns etc.!

I see many DJ's who just mix and hardly look at the crowd.
I don't respect DJ's like this, So you will see my jumping around like a Looney whilst I play, after all it's my favorite thing to do so why not show it and get involved."

"Absolutely!
There is a great underground scene on Koh Phangan and it’s a great place to play.
Iit has lots of expats who help keep it alive. 

I keep away from the places that play commercial music on the island completely."

His favorite place on Phangan has over the years been around Haad Salad.
Recently though he was staying in the Baan Tai area, which is much more central if one likes to get easy to the parties.

"Some of my favourite places to play have been Backyard, Mellow Mountain and I'm sure soon to be Jungle Experience."

What do you hope to bring with you back from Phangan?

Good memories with friends.

What are your next projects?

"I am currently starting up a new promotions company called 'London Underground' in Bangkok; it will be a series of events in Bangkok at different venues, with different music policies.

The concept is to create a vibe like my much loved London Clubs and will be booking DJ's from The UK or Europe who have had experience playing in London in different genres.
I want to bring something new to Bangkok and bring DJ's that don't usually play in BKK; this keeps things fresh and exciting in my books.

The first one is a fortnightly underground House night on a Thursday at Glow called 'In My House'. The first one was last week, Thurs 18th April.

I also have several tracks I have written under a new House alias 'Radio Rental'.
I am finishing these up ready for the test on the tour and as mentioned previous Apple Munch with Moudy."

What is the best thing you ever been involved with or done?

"Over the years I have played 100's of parties its really hard to choose.
But holding residencies some of London's most respected underground clubs such as The End, The Cross and Fire as a Dj are highlights and playing Ibiza on several occasions.

As a producer highlights have been my tracks supported by Richie Hawtin, Loco Dice, Marco Carola and Laurent Garnier to name drop a few ;-)

Also promoting a Sunday morning after party in London for over 2 years is a real highlight, it was a place where all my friends would come week in week out and we would pack the 300 capacity venue in Brixton from 6.30am until 2.30pm Sunday! The venue got closed down so we lost our party…Miss those days!!!"

How did you get so far? What is your life philosophy?

Laughter and music with friends!!
I Probably shouldn't drink, smoke or do drugs…. But where's the fun in that eh???
