Koh Phangan

Harp bar re-opening party will take place on June 13 evening.

The venue has been renovated and Jamie the Manager is looking forward for the opening date try to complete all renovation on that, and on Koh Phangan this is not a simple task :)

Jamie has  been coming to Thailand for many years and Koh Phangan was always one of my favourite Islands. Two years ago he got a bit fed up with the stress of the UK and bored of my career, so he made the jump and moved to Thailand.

'I was fortunate to work in both Samui and Phangan, and now the new owners of Harp Bar tracked me down, and asked if I would take over their bar and transform it in to the bar it should be, and this is what I am doing now by opening it all up, decking out the front with Astroturf and relaxing furniture.'

What projects did you make here on Phangan?
I am currently refurbishing The Harp Irish Bar at the end of Thong Sala Ferry port to make it a great place for both locals and tourists alike.

Jamie desire is to to provide a bar that caters for everything but in a relaxing and comfortable environment, a home away from home let’s say.  'We will be bringing weekly live music events, showing all sport across our projector screen and 4 big screens, and we serve great food and drink.  Free Pool, Free Darts, Free Cold Towel and Free Wi-fi.'.

What are projects are you currently involved with / what are your next projects?
We are on stage one of our plan for Harp Bar.  Stage 2 in late September we will be re-modelling the whole area inside, ready for our Hostel in April 2015.  We have the best position on the Island and we have to take advantage of that as much as possible.

Do you have future plans on Phangan?
Same answer as the prior one.

What is the best thing you ever been involved with or done?
For the past 13 years in the UK I have been involved in every aspect of Nightclubs and Events, and have been lucky to work with big name DJs across the industry, but my best memory was my first ever promotion night, I can remember the panic of worrying about customers not turning up for the event, to the point where I was walking around the block for an hour being sick, and then to walk round the corner back to the club to see the queue going around the building.  That was the best thing, as it created a career that I loved for many years.

Do you find Koh Phangan to be a good place for your project/s?
Koh Phangan is a great Island as it is the only place in the world that has a guaranteed income every month, being the Full Moon, it’s like a new years eve 12 times a year, so it’s good for business, but ultimately it is a beautiful island that still feels like old Thailand, something some Islands are starting to lose because of the growth in Industry and Tourism.

Where is your favourite place here?
My favourite spot on the Island is Haad Salad, I’ve loved it for many years, just jump in a kayak after work, jump off and have a snorkel, and remember why and how lucky I am to be here..

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I still see myself in this Beautiful Country, but hopefully a bit more settled.

What do you wish to learn from your Phangan experience?
I learn a lot every day on this island, it never fails to keep me on my toes.

How did you get to where you are today?
By doing a job that I love, it doesn’t feel like work and that help’s to achieve a lot more.

What is your life philosophy?
“No matter how many plans you make or how much in control you are, life is always winging it.”
Thank you Phanganist.
