Beautiful space and room for more!!
The restaurant is named after Khun Plakong Klaharn who is a local fisherman and father of Khun Thanaphorn Klaharn ( Lek) chef/owner.
This picture is of Lek’s father back in 1977 with his fishing boat on the beach right next to our restaurant outside Lek’s grandmother’s family home.
What a beautiful picture! At this time the land is empty execpt a few palm trees on the beach.
Yes, this was taken before tourism grew on the island and fishing was one of the main sources of income. There used to be fish markets in the centre of Ban Tai village were the White Rabbit Bar is now.
So Leks family have been fishermen for generations?
Yes! Lek was on a fishing boat from the age of 3 and when building his restaurant he wanted to bring some of his family history for customers to enjoy so he took one of the family long tail boats and creatively converted it in to seating.
His mother also helped him when he first opened the restaurant her yellow curry crab recipe is our signature house dish and she is often seen in the kitchen today when we are busy.
Lek spent some time in Ireland and learned to cook many western dishes so over time he continued to add to the menu taking some traditional Thai dishes and giving them a western twist.
He also created new recipes such as his own sauces which are served with local fish such as barracuda and king mackerel and of course the very popular fish cakes.
He does use Msg in his cooking and uses only the freshest local produce.
Now I see you have moved location?
Yes! Fisherman’s was first opened over 5 years ago on family land it was a beach location back then but as Koh phangan is growing the new pier is being developed and taken away some of the beach at our old location so it’s great to be back on the beach with the stunning views of Koh Samui.
All our old customers have been fantastic and very supportive giving us great feedback on the new location so we hope everyone enjoys it has much as we do.......
Well thank you for your time good luck and I can’t wait to some soon for some more yummy food.
