Since the legalization of cannabis for medical purposes in Thailand, more than 300 cannabis clinics have opened nationwide and 70 percent of patients using it have reported improvement in their symptoms, said Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.
14,236 people were treated at medical cannabis clinics in hospitals, most of them suffering from last-stage cancer and receiving palliative treatment.
The rest are Parkinson's disease patients, insomnia, and other illnesses.
Approximately all patients using medical cannabis had no side effects, he said at a training session on the usage of medical cannabis extracts offered yesterday in Buriram to 150 physicians and researchers.

The Director-General of the Department of Medical Services (DMS), Somsak Akkasilp, said the DMS developed and transferred knowledge to medical staff and offered training focused on recent research and more experience gained from the medical use of cannabis extracts.
11,747 health workers from his department and the Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine Department have been trained since last year.
