Unfamiliar Environments - Art Exhibition & Tape Release Concert

Art/Design exhibition upstairs and a tape release concert downstairs by record label, Unfamiliar Environments.

Unfamiliar Environments is a new experimental record label, recording studio, and bespoke CNC fabrication lab based in Chiang Rai, by American industrial designer/label head, Matt Kennedy. 'Showcasing post-modern, instrumental, avant-garde and electro-acoustic artists working in and around the SE Asia region' with limited edition physical releases in extremely detailed and exquisite packaging. Many of the artists Unfamiliar Environments has selected to work with have also performed at Jam.

Physical cassettes by Unfamiliar Environments will be available to purchase on the night as well as a free Scoutland & Friends album download code for all attendees on the opening night.

EXHIBITION DETAILS
The Unfamiliar Environments light-box exhibit is an investigation of dimensional pattern collage based on the properties of light passing through a variety of materials in 3D space. Wood framed light boxes will house multiple layers of various materials creating new patterns that arise through interaction with other layers and the physical properties of light in space. Artist studio Port Rhombus (Matt Kennedy) is also the label head of Unfamiliar Environments and will perform as SSMM.

MATT KENNEDY
An Industrial Designer known for his own studio work as Port Rhombus as well as his design work for Studio GORM, GILLISlab & Core 77's Hand Eye Supply. His work features an emphasis on materials, clean lines and a marriage of handicraft and digital fabrication tools to create products that are forward thinking but with a heart and mind of the past.

A WORLD WONDERED FULL (COREY BEST)
Corey Best is part of the band 'A World Wondered Full', which is an open door of rotating musicians from across different countries, playing and contributing to recordings together without restraint songs for no state. Together they gather and form wordless riots, slow and steady wails with shaking hands through static and smoke, stitching into something together to float back through it all. Their music has been described with adjectives such as drone, noise, and sometimes post rock among other things. In the end none of it really matters.

SCOUTLAND & FRIENDS AT SMALLS
Scoutland & Friends was a unique line-up at Smalls for one night only in BKK and one of the best live shows in 2018 to be seen. The addition of dub effects processing and modular synthesizer made for extraordinarily adventurous music that is being documented and release in digital and limited edition cassette formats on the night of the show. Scoutland will perform their unique brand of avant jazz/art rock as a 3 piece this night.

TOMMY HANSON & NUTCHAPON CHOOSAKUL
Tommy & Nutchapon were a part of the Scoutland and Friends show at Smalls and will be performing together an improv modular synthesizer set themselves mangling ethnic samples with ambient whiffs and jazz chunks into a rhythmic roller coaster on the fringes of electronic dance music.

KOTA TAKI
Kota Taki is not guitar looping artist - he's an inter-dimensional sound courier building soundscapes from things he finds along his travels. His release earlier this year on Unfamiliar Environments "Into a Dose" was well received for its adventurous use of tone and timbre and unusual sonic composition using only guitar.

SSMM
The studio project of label head Matt Kennedy previously known as Daydream Devices. Expect cross-genre exploration melding western tinged ambient guitar, pulsing analog synthesizers and polyrhythmic future beats percussion.
