The Embassy of Portugal in Thailand, the Portuguese Cultural Center in Bangkok in partnership with WTF Gallery are delighted to invite you to the solo show “10795 days of bummer“ by Wasted Rita at WTF Gallery. The opening reception will be held on Saturday 7 October 2017, 7pm at WTF Gallery.
Portuguese artist Rita Gomes presents works of her thought-provoking scribbles on colourful paper. They illuminate a variety of observations of the absurdities of life, sometimes angry, and always brutally honest. With a natural tendency to provoke, Rita Gomes’s art is a way for her to take fragile, fleeting moments and translate them into equally transient-looking pieces. They are a never-ending stream of curious proposition, sarcastic observation and eccentric moral quandaries. With insights ranging from the deceptively banal to the profound, Gomes lay bare the ambiguities, comedy and pathos of everyday life.
Gomes has consistently experimented with different media and formats, but scribbled words and phrases have been the main focus of her practice. The exhibition focuses on her work on paper — doodles of what she may or may not have been feeling at a given moment, coming at the viewer with a seemingly artless air. In all these works, she calls attention to the flaws and affectations of mainstream culture around her with words and images that beckon the viewer to enjoy the liberating power of a good laugh.
Born in 1988 in Porto, Gomes is graphic designer and illustrator based in Lisbon. Recent solo exhibitions have been held at Festival Iminente, London, England; Underdogs 10, Porto and Lisbon, Portugal; Artgang, Montreal, Canada; Dismaland, Weston-super-Mare, England; CAAA, Guimarães, Portugal; Kino Siska, Ljubjana, Slovenia; Skopje, Macedonia; Trenutak,39, Zagreb, Croatia; Idrawalot, Berlin, Germany; Petit Bain, Paris, France. She has also collaborated with Dewar’s, Hendrick’s, Happy Socks, Blue Q, Converse, Ginza Mag, Goldwin, Cheel, Doolittle Magazine, Hurley and Samsung.

สถานฑูตโปรตุเกสในประเทศไทย, ศูนย์วัฒนธรรมโปรตุเกสในกรุงเทพฯ ร่วมกับ WTF แกลลอรี่ มีความยินดีขอเชิญท่านเข้าร่วมงานนิทรรศการเดี่ยว “10795 days of bummer” โดยศิลปิน Wasted Rita ณ WTF Gallery โดยงานเปิดจะจัดขึ้นในวันเสาร์ท่ี 7 ตุลาคม 2560 เวลา 19.00น
ศิลปินชาวโปรตุเกสที่มีชื่อจริงว่า Rita Gomes นำเสนองานกระตุ้นทางความคิดในรูปแบบของงานเขียนที่เป็นลายมือของเธอลงบนกระดาษสีจัดจ้าน เป็นการอธิบายให้เห็นถึงการเฝ้าสังเกตุเรื่องไร้สาระในชีวิตทจากมุมมองที่หลากหลาย บางครั้งดูเหมือนโกรธ แต่ทั้งหมดเป็นเรื่องจริงในชีวิต ผลงานของ Gomes มีแนวโน้มยั่วยุอารมณ์ผู้ชม เป็นวิธีการแสดงออกของเธอในการจัดการกับอารมณ์ที่อ่อนไหว ความรู้สึกชั่ววูบของเธอ ที่ถูกแปลออกมาในรูปแบบของงานศิลปะที่ดูคล้ายสภาวะชั่วคราวเช่นกัน นอกจากนี้ยังเสนอความอยากรู้อยากเห็นอย่างไม่มีที่สิ้นสุด การเฝ้าสังเกตุสิ่งรอบอย่างเหน็บแนม พร้อมแนบแนวคิดสอนใจแนวประหลาดอย่างน่าฉงนสนเท่ห์ มุมมองที่แหลมคมของเธอมีความหลากหลาย ตั้งแต่การมองทะลุพฤติกรรมการสร้างภาพลวงทั่วๆไปในสังคม ไปจนแนวคิดที่ความลึกซึ้ง เผยให้เห็นถึงความกำกวมซับซ้อม เรื่องตลก และความน่าสมเพชเวทนาในชีวิตของมนุษย์ในแต่ละวัน
Gomes เป็นศิลปินที่ทดสอบการนำเสนอในรูปแบบงานที่หลากหลาย แต่งานเขียนที่เป็นคำและประโยคคือผลงานหลักของเธอ นิทรรศการครั้งนี้เพ่งความสนใจไปที่งานบนกระดาษ ขีดเขียนเรื่องราวที่ศิลปินอาจรู้สึก หรือไม่รู้สึกกับช่วงเวลาช่วงหนึ่ง สร้างบรรยากาศให้ไม่เหมือนงานศิลปะ ผบงานทั้งหมด ศิลปินให้ความสนใจกับข้อบกพร่องและการเสแสร้งของวัฒนธรรมกระแสหลักรอบตัวเธอ ด้วยคำพูดและภาพจินตนาการ เป็นการเรียกให้ผู้ชมสนุกไปกับอำนาจของการปลดปล่อยและอารมณ์ขันได้อย่างดี
