Let’s take a look back and some of the highlights and unforgettable memories the island of Koh Phangan has brought to us this year…

We began the year with a bang as always and the parties continued, as they do, well into January. The main highlight being the return of Drum n Bass, Jungle and Dubstep music events to the island courtesy of yours truly Phanganist Hostel!

We had a steady dedicated following and rinsed out the beats into the early hours which brought in a fresh sound to the party scene here early on in the year.

February brought us ‘Charm Beats’ the creation of Marco Loco, Roni Kush and wonderful Ann from Charm Beach Resort. This was a welcome mid week event which attracted many people each week with free yoga, sunset sessions, live art and a bbq. The music was of the more chilled, soulful variety and Charm Beats was a breath of fresh air compared to the many House and
Techno parties. An event you could really catch up with friends at and just relax or dance at.

March was all about that most famous Thai band ‘Job 2 Do’, they played an amazing gig at Phanganist and as ever, always bring the huge crowds with them.

The Job 2 Do event went hand in hand with Phanganists 7 year anniversary and may we have many more to come so thank you for your support!

During April we held a beautiful fashion show at Phanganist Hostel with designer ‘Flura Natura’ which showed amazing neon creations.

April is of course the month of Thai New Year and yet again Koh Phangan celebrated as big as we always do. No one really worked on that day, instead we all get sucked in (or should that be soaked) to the drenching of water and traditional blessings.

Koh Phangan’s Colormoon Festival returned for its best year yet, celebrating the coconut with fashion shows, competitions and lots of fun, games and music!

During May we had some of the hottest weather of the year. Even the island’s dog and cat population take it easy in the scorching temperatures of the day, They find their way into your house or bungalow in the hot daytime, only to have lots of energy when the night arrives with its cooling air.

Many of us enjoyed the quiet times with only the hardcore KP crowd managing to survive the quiet climate and temperatures.

June was a pretty standard month and then into July we decided to bring a bit of Latin flavour with Latino Nights at Phanganist whilst there were an influx of beautiful Spanish folk visiting the island at this time.

Valentino Restaurant in Thong Nai Pan had their launch night and what a night it was! Here you can get a taste for some of the most high end creative cuisine on the island.

In August the legendary beach bar of Haad Rin and original Full Moon venue Drop In Bar launched their VIP Lounge which brings a different perspective to the famous party, you can now experience a panoramic view of the party with much smaller queues for those well known buckets!

September brings us drawing even more inwards for the beginning of low season but we ended nicely with another unique fashion show of Dreams Secrets and Oliver Twist at Phanganist Hostel.

The most historic moments of the island will of course be October’s Royal Cremation which was honoured all throughout the Country. In respect of the late King Bhumibol (Rama 9) all parties and celebrations were postponed for 30 days and the community paid their respects at the Temple in Thong Sala on October 23rd whilst many of us watched the ceremony on our screens.

November came around and everything was back to normal, most Phanganists had itchy feet and so the party season started with a boom! The island was still quiet and we had our fair share of rain but all this was a nice teaser for high season just around the corner!

What were your highlights of 2017? Let us know and let's hope we have just as much of a great year in 2018!
