Even though many people come to Koh Phangan to have a more relaxed and spiritual way of life, it’s still easy to get caught up in things. Cycling’s a good way to get some space in your day.
Our very own Em Phanganist is a fan of cycling and talks about why she enjoys riding her bike around our beautiful island....
I would always have a bicycle in the UK and would cycle everywhere, I guess it’s more part of the culture there but lately since having my bike here on Koh Phangan it’s good to see the bicycle community grow (or maybe I just notice it more now?).
The Thai community are big believers in cycling for health and fitness and I love it when they say hello to me when they pass me on their bicycles.
Sound's friendly!
Yeah, on my bike I get to take in all of the surroundings, I have time to wave and blow kisses to my friends as they pass on their motorbike, it’s really nice.
Plus I gain 40 minutes of exercise a day just by cycling to and from the Phanganist office which I would not get on a moped, and you know what? I love it, I enjoy cycling so it’s a pleasure!
Plus you can have a laugh with friends attempting to do wheelies.....
There are a couple of places where you can either rent or buy a biycle on Koh Phangan. There are also bicycle tours to see what it's like.
Albert Einstein is one of the most famous advocates of riding a bicycle. It was something he did throughout his life, famously saying “life is like riding a bicycle, to keep your balance you must keep moving”
Add some fun and freedom to your time here on the island....
Give it a try!
And please remember to stay safe on your bicycle - wear lights whilst riding at night-time, avoid listening to music on headphones in traffic and always wear a helmet! :-)
