A new style of tourism is developing on Koh Phangan. It’s geared more around families, who, whether they are living or working here are enjoying the more peaceful elements they island has to offer.

We speak to Daniella who is visiting Koh Phangan with her family. Enjoying a relaxing time whilst also being inspired with ideas for her work as a script writer…

Daniella, what drew you to Koh Phangan?

We're in Thailand for three months so Koh Phangan was a must do in terms of people’s recommendations. We’ve been already on the west side and we knew we would end the trip on the east side and get tanned. Many people ask us where shall we go, where shall we go. Now we’re here in Koh Phangan I’d fully recommend it because it has all kinds of activities and beaches that give you different style of atmosphere.

I’m a script writer so I’m also travelling to do research for my next script.

What do you think Koh Phangan has for families?

Well, I think that of course the beaches, the beautiful beaches. The sport activities that we haven’t fully researched. The water stuff for kids.  It’s nice. Making kids happy is so easy because you give them just a few metres of water and they’re happy. And, of course jet ski which we promised the kids and it’s the first time we let them do it. Also the jungle atmosphere that you can enjoy here. They don’t play with screens. They experience stuff this is very important to us.

The beaches are near and everything’s combined.

Ah… and the cinema – the moonlight cinema which I visited as part of my work.

Tell us about your work…

I’m independent so I’m doing these script workshops. I prepared in advance, my monthly newsletters and now when you have Wifi everywhere, you can be in touch with everyone. So, it’s a good thing. I planned the next courses two weeks after I come back. So, I can get my mind set.

Also, I’m making blogs from here. I interviewed someone in Bangkok.

I collect ideas for scenes and of course characters.

Any you can share with us?

Let’s say that when we were on Koh Yai. So… we made a boat tour and that’s going to be in the script for sure. The main characters are female are going to visit the James Bond Island.

It’s fun because I’m having this trip with my family but I also parallel this experience because of the script.

It’s very fun to travel with family. Of course, I did it when I was single.. partying… in India, in Thailand. Now I feel like the main difference is you don’t look around – this is the most handsome guy or this is the most coolest place. When I was young it was always searching and hunting outside. When you’re with your family, you have everything inside. Which is mainly part of being a parent – having a family. You feel it more strongly when youre on a trip.

On a table, we’re playing and laughing. We get collective memories. The most fun game is to make “who am I”? with pantomime of someone from the trip.

Any favourite place on the island?

We really liked the cinema. Of course they love the water. Visiting here- you have the sea, you have the sun, you have your pina colada...

When you’re looking to book, everything looks amazing – so many places to see, stay and things to do.

Do you think it’s a good place to live and work as a family? As well as visit for a holiday.

I know many people who do it. On the west Coast there’s a strip of Isreali families who relocated there. It’s not something I would like to do in this phase of my life because I enjoy my life in Israel but I think to do your retirement here with the retirement-visa it’s amazing. You can live like kings and queens.

Here it’s like paradise.

Koh Phangan is a beautiful place with lots to offer for everyone. It's great to see people of all ages and times in their lives visiting here and making the most of it.

Daniella, thanks for talking with us.
