A number of additional categories of foreigners may apply to enter the Kingdom again. These include migrant workers from Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar, holders of Elite Visa, medical tourists, film crew, convention exhibitors and select visitors to the business. Anyone not falling into one of those groups will remain excluded from the country as the boundaries remain closed to nearly all other international arrivals.
That is the latest proposal for the next phase of Thailand 's border reopenings.
Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin, spokesman for the Covid-19 Task Force in Thailand, has not provided a date for the arrival of new groups, but stakeholders should contact the nearest Thai Embassy to get the ball rolling. Each request will be dealt with on a case-by - case basis, and it is important to note that falling into one of these groups does not automatically mean that you will be allowed to enter. Migrant workers are advised to contact their employer whilst holders of Elite Visa should contact their dedicated representative.
All arrivals will still have to undertake the mandatory quarantine of the state for 14 days. That requirement has now been extended to diplomats after a week ago the Sudanese ambassador 's daughter in Bangkok tested the virus positively. Taweesin says that special "migrant quarantine" facilities are being prepared, adding that having migrants quarantine alone is not cost-effective, they will do so in groups. He did not mention how large the groups would be but said that under no circumstances will migrants be allowed to leave the quarantine facility.
It is hoped that allowing migrant workers back into the country, although with strict controls, will lead to a reduction in the number attempting to illegally cross over into Thailand. Border officials last weekend arrested dozens of illegal Cambodian immigrants who had hoped to find work in Thailand.
