Thailand is proposing to allow foreigners to visit this August with Phuket, Phi Phi and Samui to pilot the scheme first.

On 29 June, Mr Pipat Ratchakitprasit, Minister of Tourism and Sports, said that Thailand will be able to accept general tourists to come in from August sooner than the original schedule of October or November.

For the provinces that are ready to welcome tourists first, there are a total of 3 provinces, including 5 destinations including Phuket Island, Phi Phi Island, Krabi Province, Koh Samui Island, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao and Surat Thani Province. As for the criteria for being open, it is under discussion with the Ministry of Public Health. But the principle is clear that it will allocate a quota of tourists into each area by calculating the capability of the detection of COVID-19 and the main public health potential.

As for the travel of tourists, they will be allowed to fly in to the specified destination only if it is necessary to stop in to change flights in Bangkok but will not be allowed to leave the airport to travel in or around Bangkok in any way.

Let’s see how this goes…
