Koh Phangan is split into five zones which is very impressive for such a small island. We suggest you visit all of them as they are all absolutely beautiful with something to offer for everyone. As we have reported previously this island is not just a party island any more…..

Zone 3 (East and North East)

This part of the island is the quietest and sparsely populated side of Koh Phangan and it has some breathtaking views both on the coast and inland.

This part of the island is a protected national park which means there are very strict rules regarding development and the behaviour of the people that visit.

Did you know forty percent of Koh Phangan is a protected area? This area of the island is kept in perfect pristine condition. It boasts waterfalls and jungle areas which are simply stunning - if (when!!) you go to this part of the island as always use your common sense and take plenty of water and swap flip flops for walking shoes and fully respect the land and the people of this gorgeous side of Koh Phangan.

Some of the treks up to the most scenic parts can take up to three hours so be ready for this, but it is ultimately worth it.

There is Than Sadet Waterfall which is simply a must see part of the island but during the dry season the waterfall can be more of a trickle than a fall! At night time there are simply stunning views which have to be seen to be be believed.

Than Sadet Waterfall has the carvings of King Rama V, Rama VII and Rama IX on the boulders as this is and was one of their favourite spots on the Koh Phangan if not the whole of Thailand.

If you are a brave and hardened hiker or simply need the challenge or exercise you can make it up to Khao Ra which is the highest mountain on the island at 625 metres above sea level - So imagine this view!

The main beach in this zone is Thong Nai Pan Noi and Thong Nai Pan Yai boasting some of the top of the range resorts on the island and is very popular for families or couples and honeymooners.

You have two beaches here which are a short trek over the hill apart and are both among the best beaches on the entire island. There are bars and restaurants and the journey to these beaches is as fun as the beaches themselves.

There are plenty of viewpoints and small dirt tracks to explore so definitely make the effort for this journey you won't regret it.

You can drive to the North East on the middle road from Ban Tai and it really is worth the visit, you can stop off and enjoy some activities on the way like ziplining.

Thong Nai Pan Noi and Yai are gorgeous beaches and the little village of Noi comes to life at night but doesn't get too busy.

You can enjoy exquisite little restaurants and bars and the place has a magical atmosphere in the evening.

Most of the high end resorts here offer all different types of entertainment including DJs, live music and performance and dance so you can eat in the resort restaurant on the beach or one of the local places then enjoy the nighlife entertainment with your family or loved one.

Zone 3 is Koh Phangan's roots, it has changed over the years with the introduction of resorts on the North East coast but the whole area remains beautiful and protected and this is a must see for any visitor!
