Wed, 31 Jan - The Story of the Weeping Camel (Luigi Farloni & Byambasuren Davaa, 2004)

The screening will start at 8 pm.

YAKS AND CAMELS
Two cinematic tales from the highlands of Asia. Himalaya shows the story elicited from a village in Dolpo by a French film crew. The villagers act out their own story of the drama between youth and elders as they haul their salt over the high Himalayan passes. The film shows fine acting as well as beautiful scenery. The Story of the Weeping camel is set in Mongolia and tells the story of a sick camel and the great lengths its family go to track down a traditional healer.

I first saw Himalaya in the art deco style Castro Theater in San Francisco. A few years later I'd gotten rid of everything to become nomadic. After camping for several days in the Haleakala Crater on Maui, I returned to a friend's where we watched Himalaya, and I knew I had to go there. That inspired my first trip to India and Nepal.

DHAMI BOO
Dhami Boo is a spoken and written word artist, healer, musician of sorts, and traveler. His life experiences range from horse drawn farming and sex work to extensive travel on the Indian subcontinent and in S.E. Asia. He's a bit of a nomad but has been based in Thailand for the past eight years. He's known to roam the Bangkok spoken word community with one of his homemade musical Bowgasms in hand.
