Although Koh Tao is best known for its scuba diving, there is a thriving subculture of international music, colourful art and performance, and outstanding nightlife beneath the laid-back island surface.

In a romantic restaurant, the lighting should never be too bright. When a dining room is darkly lit rather than brightly lit, it drowns out everything else in the room, allowing you to focus solely on your date rather than the table to her left. Not to mention that dark, flickering light is the most flattering.

You can indulge at home with friends, in a nice Italian restaurant with a glass of wine, or let it soak up all the bottles of beer and tequila shots you had at the bar earlier in the night.

You can sit on the terrace or go around the rocks to the water's edge once you've arrived at the viewpoint. Sunsets are that magical time of day when we get together with friends and travellers from all over the world to drink an ice-cold beer or a refreshing coconut and chit-chat about what we discovered that day, which beaches or waterfalls we visited, what food we tried for the first time, or simply to enjoy the various shades of pink, purple, orange, and blue the sky brings us, the gentle waving of the sea. Whether you prefer to watch the sunset on the beach or in the mountains, with or without a crowd, there's something for everyone.

The reefs of Koh Tao are widely regarded as being ideal for diver training. The water is warm and, for the most part, clear. In addition, for the majority of the year, the weather is pleasant, visibility is decent, and currents are gentle. As a result, you are able to dive all year.

The island is 55 km north of Koh Samui and was ‘discovered’ in the early 1980s, it now supports a wide selection of hotels, budget guesthouses to beach bungalows and all the way up to five-star luxury resorts. It is an idyllic paradise island.

Incoming international travellers who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 and wish to enter Thailand without quarantine will be required to stay in hotels that have a SHA+ (SHA Plus) certificate.
