The Seasons of Koh Phangan
Some of us are from the UK, there are four changeable seasons each very different from the other. Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter, each with their own colours, noticeable nature shifts and temperatures.
A Lot of other countries are the same, very noticeable season changes.
But here in Thailand things are a little different.
Generally it’s hot all year round although they do have different weather but here it can be classed into three seasons rather than four.
The ‘Cool’ Season
December to February
It’s still going to be hot but these months are the coolest time to visit Koh Phangan and that’s probably why these months are also the most popular.
So although this is the best time to visit, be prepared for quickly booked up accommodation, higher prices and more people.
If visiting Koh Phangan in particular and you’re not interested in the parties then come when it is not the week of full moon as it will be ‘a bit’ quieter with less drunk students to wriggle through.
Temperatures can still be hot but there is also the occasional shower, mainly occurring in December to freshen things up a bit!
The Hot Season
March to June
As we are writing this, this season is now in full swing! And super full on power full swing with the highest temperatures for over sixty years...say no more!
There is little or no rain around this time so you will appreciate air conditioned accommodation with a pool.
The High season is coming to an end in the beginning of this season however so you will find the island is quieter that peak season so that air con room will be cheaper at least.
If you are coming from somewhere cold and wet then this is a good time to visit Phangan but be careful in the heat!
Pre Monsoon - So this can be a kind of inbetween season which is usually July to September (but anything can change).
It is still hot but there starts to be more rain, which is usually good.
A great combination of tropical heat and showers to cool you and the island down, and start watering that jungle!
This can be a really nice time to visit as it is still relatively quiet and the temperature has gone down a bit.
Rainy Season!!
October and November
Yay it’s monsoon season! Okay so it won’t rain every day but you will see more rain than any other time of the year.
It’s still warm though so you can make this fun. Go in the sea when it’s raining if you get caught outside during a rainstorm.
In fact you may experience some beautiful storms, an amazing lightning show and god like thunder!
You can still have some hot, dry days here though. It really depends on what mother nature is feeling that day, but do be prepared for a few days of nonstop rain. Sometimes when it starts it doesn’t stop.
