Fashion Show at NB_ Cafe

The first Phangan Fashion Show was on February 2013, 2 years ago and going into Year 3...

Miss Beccy originated the idea 2 years ago, as a project to bring together some of the island’s fashion talent in one fun evening. She felt there’s a lot going on out here, people creating their own clothes, accessories and jewelry, expressing their very individual styles and it’s all very much a part of island culture, so why not celebrate that? The show highlighted some of the island’s better known brands and traders such as Liloo and Moontribe, and it gave an opportunity for smaller name or upcoming designers to take part and let us all know what they do.

This year it's in a new venue for the show, taking place at the NB_ Café in Baan Tai. It’s not a café like most others… it’s a place where the island’s artists exhibit their work. It’s definitely becoming a venue which celebrates the creative spirit of the island, so it’s the perfect fit, and because the café is also a show space, you will be able to come buy any clothing, accessory or jewelry which you see at the show, for up to a week after the event.

The Show is hosted by Christian who created the NB_ Cafe. The participants are 20 or so models, 10 designers (inc. accessories and jewelry), 3 traders, hair/make-up artists, and stylists and floor assistants to help run everything nice and smoothly. There’s also a dj, a tapas maker and a very handy handyman to get the place ready, & more...

The previous shows were crazy fun and everybody had a great night. For some of local farangs who took part such as Kitty the producer of this show it was first time modelling "It was flattering and terrifying at the same time." Kitty say "We felt Beccy was onto a good thing, so it gave us a nice buzz to take part and to do something completely different for the island. For the designers and traders, they were super happy to have this opportunity.".

"New show, new possibilities!", add Kitty with a lot of excitement,  "Plus, we have many more designers participating than in previous years. We’ve really reached-out to a large number of designers and traders to offer them this opportunity to show their work. So this year we’ll also have the well-known island Thai labels Khattaya and DMT.

Everybody is delighted and highly motivated, the response has been real positive. And so this year I guess you’ll see more variety along with the island classics... a diverse representation of styles inspired from the beach, jungle, chillout and music scene: “Made on Koh Phangan”!".

Which designers will be presented?
Like last year there’s Yellow Iris, Liloo, Moontribe, Wonderbun... but also this year we are joined by Khattaya, Trik’art, DMT, EyeGee’s Jungle Pants, Hippywear, Nuri Ka, Calypso Creations... Accessories and jewelry will be provided by Peu Importe, Kikinadesign, and Pet Tawan Jewelry, and styling by John & Lennon. I hope I didn’t forget anybody…

Do you feel that it brings something extra to the “local culture” here?
Yep for sure. The island’s vibe is so much about enjoying life and celebrating it. And so like in past years, the fashion show makes the statement that we always do this in many ways… in this case by celebrating the abundant creative talent which is around. The island has inspired a number of us to create what will be shown on Saturday, so this is a real Thank You to this place and what it has given us.

Is there something special you would like to communicate to the people regarding the show/s or just something that you feel will be good to share in the interview?
It’s at 7pm on Saturday 28th. Christian thinks the “blue beacon” you’re supposed to follow to NB_ Cafe is blue, actually it’s white, I reckon, just so you know.
